Man who left suicide note accusing police of torture found alive in Rajasthan

A man who left home after accusing the police of torture in a ‘suicide note’ has been traced alive to Bharatpur in Rajasthan, the police said on Friday.

Ishwar Singh alias Bablu, a history-sheeter from Momnathal village in Greater Noida, had disappeared from his residence on Monday, leaving a five-page ‘suicide note’ accusing the police of trying to frame him in criminal cases.

“After leaving home, Bablu went to a relative’s residence in Bharatpur. He said he was planning to commit suicide but our relatives informed us. We are bringing him back to the city,” Rajveer Singh, Ishwar’s father, said.

The police had sent a number of divers to search for his body in the stretch of Yamuna near his village.

Ishwar, who has been to jail twice on charges of armed robbery and under the gangster act, had alleged that the police were trying to imprison him again and were demanding money from his family to not do so.

“Last year, the police framed my son in a fake case of car robbery. They put him in jail on November 7. On February 26, we managed to foot the bail amount and get him out of jail. But again on June 5, the police slapped a case under the gangster act on him and send him back to jail. We got him out on bail on July 15 but the police called him again and asked him to surrender in a criminal case,” said Rajveer Singh.

Singh said that the police officers demanded money from him. The police, however, rejected the claims and said that Ishwar was trying to evade arrest.

“The erstwhile in-charge of the Knowledge Park police station was transferred. If anyone approaches with a complaint, the matter will be investigated. So far, we have not found anything suspicious on part of the investigators,” Abhishek Yadav, superintendent of police (rural), Gautam Budh Nagar, said.

He said that the transfer of the erstwhile Knowledge Park police station in-charge was pre-scheduled and not a punishment.

“Legal action will be taken against Ishwar for trying to fake his death,” Yadav said.
