SoBo shootout: Accused arrested after 27-years

27 years after a shootout in south Mumbai, the Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) of the Mumbai crime branch managed to arrest a 59-year-old notorious gangster of the Chhota Rajan gang, who along with his three accomplices fired at a rival gang member.

The accused, identified as Ganesh Ram Soradi alias Danny alias Honey alias Ramesh Devisingh Bist, is a native of Uttarakhand and a known member of Chhota Rajan gang. He stayed in Tilak Nagar, Chembur, and was involved in several murder cases. He had earlier been arrested in the Ashok Joshi murder case in Panvel.

“During investigations, we came to know that Soradi often visits Mumbai. Recently we were tipped-off that he was coming here. A police team nabbed him near Sahar international airport as per the information and he was brought at the AEC office for inquiry where his identity was confirmed after verifying his documents. He also confessed to the crime during interrogation,” said a Mumbai police officer.

Soradi along with his three accomplices, Anil Parab alias Robinwood, an alleged member of Dawood’s gang, Sunil Sawant alias Sawtya and Sharad Shetty alias Anna, shot one of Arun Gawli’s associate, Paul Patrick, who sustained injuries on his chest and leg. The victim was rushed to the hospital and a case of attempt to murder was registered at MRA Marg police station in 1989. All four accused were notorious gangsters in those times and the crime was committed because of rivalry, said a police officer.

The accused, Anil Parab was deported from Dubai to Mumbai in 2003 and was arrested by MRA Marg police in the case. During interrogation, Parab revealed the other suspect’s name and also told the police that Sunil Sawant and Sharad Shetty had died, separately. Soradi was an active member in Chhota Rajan’s gang.
