The team set up to investigate the Sunanda Pushkar case has approached the Economic Offences Wing to help it retrieve messages from her mobile phone.

Sources said a team of officers from the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) have been roped in to investigate the case.

The EOW is the cyber crime division of Delhi Police and will focus on retrieving some BBM messages Tharoor had reportedly received a year ago.

Journalist Nalini Singh, who was one of the few persons Pushkar spoke to before her death, had in her statement to the sub-divisional magistrate said she sought her help in retrieving some BBM messages from her husband Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s phone.

The EOW team will dig into Pushkar’s email and twitter accounts to get more details about the discord in the couple’s life.

The police on Thursday questioned a television anchor in connection with the case. Pushkar was to meet the journalist on the day she was found dead. The police asked the journalist specifically what Pushkar wanted to reveal in the interview.

The journalist told the police that Pushkar had promised to talk about the IPL scam. Pushkar had told the journalist over the phone that she had tuberculosis in her stomach. He claimed that Pushkar told him, “I am going to die very soon but before going I am going to expose Shashi for what he has put me through. I will take him down”.

He told the SIT that Pushkar had promised to call him after sleeping for a few hours. He reportedly claimed that after returning from an assignment, he had called Pushkar but the call went unanswered.

Later, while anchoring a programme he learnt that she was found dead.

Police commissioner BS Bassi told reporters on Thursday that a few journalists were being questioned to ‘understand the sequence of events’ because they had spoken to Pushkar before her death.

Shashi Tharoor was on Monday questioned for close to four hours. The SIT has said that he will be questioned again in a few days.
