Chargesheet against 7 in Apna Ghar case

CBI on Tuesday submitted charge sheet against Jaswanti Devi and six others accused in Apna Ghar sexual abuse case of Rohtak.

The CBI has filed charge sheet under rape, molestation, causing miscarriage without women's consent, voluntarily causing hurt, unlawful compulsory labour, criminal intimidation, cruelty to juvenile or child and criminal conspiracy read.

The other six who were named in chargesheet included Jaswanti Devi's brother Jaswant Singh, daughter Simmi, son-in-law Jai Bhagwan, driver Satish, counsellor of shelter home Veena and Satish's sister Sheila. The chargesheet was necessary on Tuesday as mandatory 90-day period for filing it was ending today otherwise the accused would have been entitled for bail.

Meanwhile, there is still time for filing chargesheet against Bhim Singh Ranga, former investigating officer of the case, Dayanand and Harvinder Singh. Ranga, who had retired recently, had illegally handed over the case property, including laptops, to Dayananad.

Dayanand has even made a confessional statement that he had given SIM and mobile of Jaswanti Devi to his relative Harvinder Singh.

The chargesheet says that Jaswanti Devi forced inmates for developing lesbian relationship. Besides Satish and Jai Bhagwan had raped almost every inmate. Simmi and Jaswanti used to film inmates being raped.

There has been medical evidence of abortions of inmates and hard objects being inserted in their private parts.The inmates were also taken for agriculture work in wheat fields of Jaswanti and there also they were raped. Besides they were enaged in mopping floors and washing clothes.

A total of 103 children were residing in Apna Ghar headed by Jaswanti Devi and run by non-governmental organization Bharat Vikas Sangh in Shri Nagar Colony, Rohtak.

National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had conducted a surprise raid at the shelter home on May 9 after which the case had come to light. Later a four member advocates' committee constituted by the high court had submitted in its report after interviews of 101 inmates that they were subjected to sexual assault, brutal beating, starvation, naked parade, pornography, forcible abortions, forceful intoxication by the caretaker Jaswanti Devi, her relatives, outsiders and also the policemen.
