Leonardo DiCaprio celebrates Oscar nomination: ‘It feels great’
Leonardo DiCaprio is overjoyed with his Oscar nomination for The Revenant. The actor, who has been four times unlucky in the race for Oscars, shared his emotions on earning the fifth nomination.
This isn’t the first time Leonardo DiCaprio has been nominated for an Oscar. However, this is likely to be the first time when he will go home with the elusive statuette for The Revenant.
And nobody can be more excited than the talented actor himself. “It does feel great especially when you worked on something for this long a period of time,” the actor told E! Online at the London premiere of The Revenant. “This was, I keep saying to people, this was almost like going on a grand voyage together with a crew. It was unlike any other filmmaking experience I’ve had and to have so many different departments recognised the way they were, especially my friend Tom Hardy, my make-up artist that I’ve worked with for—what is it?—almost 23 years now, to see all their efforts and work connecting with the Academy and our community, it does feel great.”
The Revenant is leading the Oscar race with 12 nominations, including best picture, supporting actor and best director. The pioneer-era drama, about a man who is left for dead by his expedition companions after being attacked by a bear, will compete in a variety of categories, including best film, best director for Alejandro G Iñarritu, best actor for DiCaprio and best supporting actor for Tom Hardy.

“I wanted 13 (nominations) but ok, that’s fine, it’s enough,” Iñarritu joked on the red carpet. “No, I am very happy, very honoured.”
DiCaprio, who plays lead character fur trapper Hugh Glass, earned his fifth acting Oscar nomination for the movie, in which he spends a large part not talking at all. Iñarritu called the performance “an amazing job” while co-star Domhnall Gleeson said it was “extraordinary”.
“I wish it was up to me; I’d give (the Oscar) to him but that’s not my job,” actor Will Poulter, who play’s Glass’ young apprentice Bridger, said. “It’s fantastic to see people react so positively,” he added about the film.
Hardy said he learned of his own nomination during a shoot earlier in the day. “It’s only driving from work ... I realised how special that is and I didn’t expect that to happen to me,” he said.
