Work on flyover to decongest Sohna road will start soon

The construction of much awaited flyover from Subash Chowk to Badshapur crossing will start soon at a budget of Rs 700 crore, Haryana PWD Minister Rao Narbir Singh said during a meet at Sector 4 on Saturday.

The minister said the state government has given clearance for the project that has been in limbo since 2012.

The project is aimed at reducing congestion on Sohna road and is scheduled to be completed in two years. The construction will start in the next three months, an official of the public works department (PWD) said.

Sohna Road has numerous offices, residential estates and shopping malls in its vicinity. The road also leads to Mewat and Palwal, and extends till Alwar. Traffic congestion is a regular affair on the road.

“Subash Chowk gets choked frequently and it has a spiral effect on areas in the vicinity such as Ardee City, South City II, Nirvana and localities on the Golf Course Extension Road. As per the Sohna 2031 master plan, the area needs multiple flyovers to accommodate traffic between Faridabad-Gurgaon-Manesar,” Rajeev Aggarwal, superintending engineer of PWD, said.

The two-km flyover will be constructed along Sohna Road, originating near CD Chowk and finishing just ahead of Vatika Chowk crossing.

Aggarwal said since most of the project comes under NH-248, the project will be headed by officials of the National Highways Authority of India. The Municipal Corporation Gurgaon, Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation and the Haryana Urban Development are also part of the project.

The private agency hired to prepare the feasibility report has submitted its findings to the civic agencies and the final modulation on the length, width and number of lanes is being finalised, an official said.

Upon completion of the project, traffic on Rajiv Chowk-Sohna-Badshahpur stretch is expected to reduce significantly.

The previous Congress government had said the project would be completed under its tenure after announcing the project in 2012. However, owing to delay in preparation of a detailed project report, the project has so far failed to take-off.
