The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) commissioner Yashpal Yadav has suspended a sub-divisional officer (SDO) in the enforcement wing for failing to check unauthorised construction in his area, said officials on Friday.

Ever since a building collapsed in Ullahawas village on January 24 , the MCG has turned its attention towards checking unauthorised constructions across the city. The MCG has issued show cause notices, registered charge sheets, and even a recommended a complete overhaul of its staff responsible for checking unauthorised constructions.

“Several individuals have complained against the SDO, saying that he was not performing his duties diligently, as per the required standards. The MCG is in the process of framing a charge sheet against him, in which we will mention all his failings and forward the same to the state government for taking action,” said Yadav.

Yadav said that as commissioner he is competent to file a charge sheet against any official who is not performing his or her duties as per the requisite standards and suspend him or her if necessary. He, however, declined to divulge the details leading to the SDO’s suspension until the charge sheet has been compiled.

Last month during the monthly review meeting on March 8, Yadav issued show cause notices to two executive engineers for failing to take action against illegal constructions. Yadav said that all the officials concerned have reverted to the show cause notices, but their responses are yet to be compiled.

“We had set a deadline of May 8 for the task and the responses will be compiled within the next five days. The responses will be reviewed on the same date” said Yadav.
