Gurgaon’s third government hospital to open next year

For those wanting to avail medical facilities at inexpensive rates, there will be another option soon as the city’s third government hospital will be built at Badshahpur next year.

The development comes six months after CM Manohar Lal Khattar had made an announcement in April for a third government hospital in the city.

In collaboration with HLL Lifecare Limited, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon has sent a proposal to the district health department for developing a new civil hospital. The civic body has also sought an allotment of over five acres to build the new hospital.

The new hospital will be an addition to the existing government run hospitals at Civil Lines and Sector 10, which cumulatively have less than 300 beds and face a major shortage of space to accommodate extra patients.

“Most modalities have been worked out for setting up the new hospital. We are awaiting a consent from the health department on the number of beds which need to be allotted. Three proposals have been sent with the total number of beds as 100, 300 and 500. Once, the approval is received, an MoU will be signed with HLL and construction will commence,” MCG additional commissioner Amit Khatri said.

Khatri also said the facilities at the new hospital will be similar to the ones at Sector 10 general hospital where only ‘basic’ medical provisions are available to patients.

The general hospital offers general medicine, emergency, homeopathy and gynaecology facilities.

Due to the limited number of beds available at the two hospitals, patients are often referred to government hospitals across NCR.

The authorities have conceptualised several projects to revive public health infrastructure in the city. However, no steps have been taken to overcome shortage of doctors and medical staff.

Against a sanctioned strength of 42 posts for doctors and 34 for staff nurses, the general hospital has only 16 doctors and 18 staff nurses.

The civil hospital, established in the 1950s, has 69 sanctioned posts of doctors, three of physicians and 55 of staff nurses. According to health department officials, the facility has 63 doctors and 40 nurses.
