Rangapara is one of the 126 Assam Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Sonitpur district. Assam Assembly Election 2021 for Rangapara was held on March 27 and the result was declared on May 2.
In Assam Assembly Election 2016, there were 1,36,654 registered voters for Rangapara assembly seat, out of which 69,864 were male and 66,790 were female voters. 1.7% of voters opted for for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
In the Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2016, Rangapara constituency had 10 candidates for assembly seat contention. Total 60 seats were won by the Indian National Congress, Rangapara was one of them. The election for Rangapara seat was comfortably won by Bharatiya Janta Party's Pallab Lochan Das defeating Indian National Congress's Bhimananda Tanti by a huge margin of 22,991 votes.
81.2% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Bharatiya Janta Party's Pallab Lochan Das got a total of 51,597 votes, while Indian National Congress's Bhimananda Tanti secured 28,606 votes. Independent candidate Bijoy Kumar Tiru grabbed the third spot with 13,281 votes. The top three parties got 44.8%, 24.8% and 11.5% respectively.
In Assam Assembly election 2011, Indian National Congress's Bhimananda Tanti outperformed Bharatiya Janta Party's Niranjan Nath by 23,526 votes.
