The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will offer Multi-level Car Parking facilities at its metro stations in the congested Rajouri Garden and Pitampura areas.

Facing high demand for parking lots, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is going to offer Multi-level Car Parking (MLCP) facilities at its metro stations in the congested Rajouri Garden and Pitampura areas.

Two other such facilities have recently been opened near Janakpuri West and Rohini West stations.

While the MLCP at Rajouri Garden will be opened in December, the one at Pitampura is likely to be made operational by early next year. “The need to build MLCPs arose after our survey revealed that as many as 77 out of the 96 ground-level parking spaces available at metro stations have 100 per cent occupancy rate. At other stations it remains 90-95 per cent full. So, the most congested stations were identified for building such facilities,” an official added.

Apart from offering an alternative to packed parking lots available at metro stations, officials said these structures will also help DMRC generate revenue by letting out a few floors for commercial activities.

“The building at Rajouri Garden will have three floors for parking that can accommodate 550 vehicles. Four floors will be leased out for commercial purpose. The MLCP at Pitampura will have space for 350 vehicles. All these lots will be air-conditioned,” an official informed.

Once these projects are completed, DMRC will have five MLCPs.

The recently opened facility at Rohini West has four floors for parking and two for commercial. Similarly, Janakpuri West has six floors for parking and three for commercial. The first one was built at the New Delhi Airport station.

These new parking facilities will be open for non-metro commuters as well. “The problem of non-metro commuters parking at our slots still continues. Only about 18 lots have 100 per cent occupancy by metro commuters. For example, 80 per cent of the parking facility at Punjabi Bagh was found to be occupied by non metro commuters,” explained another official.
