Although, the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is claiming that Sunday’s event at Ramlila Maidan is a ‘workers’ meet’, the central leadership has issued instructions to state leaders to bring people in large numbers to make it a successful event.

The convention is to be addressed by the party president Amit Shah and Union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu, who will give tips to them for better booth level election management.

With the meeting, the BJP will formally kick start the campaign for civic polls in the national capital.

State unit chief Manoj Tiwari on Friday said more than 65,000 booth level workers, who have been named ‘panchparmeshwar’, will participate in the function.

“There are 13,372 booths and five workers have been nominated as ‘panchparmeshwar’ from each booth, who will be present in the Ramlila Maidan on Sunday. Apart from this, a team of 373 senior workers formed for booth management will also be there. They have been allotted photo identity cards for the event,” he said.

However, sources said that in monthly meeting held on Wednesday, Ramlal, BJP national general secretary (organisation) asked party leaders to bring more people to Ramlila Maidan. “Ramlalji said there should be equal number of people on roads outside the venue on Sunday. Now, the district level leaders are putting pressure on us to arrange workers. They are saying if one wants them to push his or her name for municipal election ticket, bring a bus full of people on Sunday,” he said.

A party functionary also said after the instruction from the senior leaders, the state unit has started working overtime to bring in more people. “At least 10 workers from each booth have been asked to attend the event, which means more than one lakh workers are expected on Sunday,” he added.
