Aditya’s family prays for life, organ donation too on mind

The family of Anuj Aditya, 25, is praying that he pulls out of his near-death state. If he doesn’t, they are considering donating his organs.

Doctors at the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences have told the family there is very little chance of his survival.

“They still have not declared him brain dead. Yes, we will donate his organs in such a case but we are praying that he comes back,” said Kshitij, Aditya’s younger brother.

“There’s a severe injury in the base of brain and the upper part of cervical the spine, which is a very sensitive area.

He is alive in a way but his prognosis is very poor. We still have to run two more extensive tests to determine whether he can pull through,” Dr Biplab Mishra, a surgeon at the trauma centre.

Aditya was brought to the trauma centre by the police control room van at 2.40 am. “Aditya was almost life-less, with no heart beat, no pulse rate, no body activity and no respiration,” said Dr Mishra.

The doctors could revive his pulse rate but not respiration, so he was put on a ventilator.

His friend Mrigank Srivastava has a fractured right leg and abrasions on the skull, face and abdomen.

“I can’t remember what happened in the morning. I just can’t,” he told the reporter.

The doctors said he has post-traumatic amnesia, due to which he had lost the memory of the accident.
