Stagnant water in every third South Delhi construction site
NEW DELHI: Every third construction site in south Delhi has stagnant water, a cause for mosquito breeding.

In a series of inspection over past three weeks, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) challaned around 300 out of around 880 construction sites.
A senior SDMC official said they inspected under-construction school buildings, Metro sites, hospitals, police stations, etc. SDMC sources said challans were issued to Metro construction sites in Lajpat Nagar, Vishal Cinema, Janakpuri, Vikas Puri and Rajouri Garden.
The civic bodies said the highest numbers of dengue and chikungunya cases — 255 and 202, respectively — were reported from south Delhi till September 10.
SDMC standing committee chairman Shailendra Singh Monty said a reason for the high figures was the presence of several construction sites, including those of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). A senior DMRC official said they were serious about cleanliness and prevention of mosquito breeding on their premises.
