SDMC to issue birth, death certificates online

NEW DELHI: Tireless wait in long queues for getting birth and death certificate will soon be a thing of the past as South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has decided to issue copies of these certificates online.

A senior official of SDMC said that the corporation will be starting the service in the next 10 days.

Currently, people have to stand in long queues at SDMC’s Citizen Service Bureau Centre to get a copy of the certificate. They have to pay Rs 20 for it.

Once the mechanism is in place, residents can go to SDMC’s website and create their account. They can obtain birth and death certificates by typing the certificate number.

People would not have to pay any fees for it.

Tanmay Saxena, a resident of Green Park said, “I recently had to take a day off from my office for getting a birth certificate as corporations’ offices remain closed on weekends. It took me more than four hours to get the certificate.”

“Once online, it would be big relief for working people,” he said.

Spokesperson of South corporation, Mukesh Yadav, said that the civic body’s focus is on making most of the things related to people’s convenience online.

In future the civic body will also give the facility to make any corrections for errors in a certificate. People can make corrections by logging on to the website from their account, the official said.

One has to upload the required identity proof like Class X certificate, Aadhaar card, voter identity card for it, he added.
