New multi-level parking lots in Rajouri Garden, Pitampura soon
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will offer air-conditioned multi-level parking facilities at its Rajouri Garden and Pitampura stations, both congested areas in the Capital’s northern parts where finding space to park a car is a huge challenge.

These will be in line with the two similar parking lots opened recently near the Metro’s Janakpuri West and Rohini West stations, and the first one built at New Delhi Airport station.
“Our survey has revealed that as many as 77 of the 96 ground-level parking spaces available at Metro stations have a 100% occupancy rate. The rest records 90 to 95% occupancy. So, the most congested stations were identified to build such facilities,” a Metro official said.
The multi-level parking lot at Rajouri Garden will be ready in December, while the one at Pitampura is likely to be opened early next year.
Apart from easing parking woes, officials said the space will help DMRC generate revenue as some of the floors could be rented out to business establishments.
“The Rajouri Garden facility will have three floors for 550 vehicles, while four floors will be leased out for commercial purposes. The one at Pitampura will have space for 350 vehicles,” the official said.
The Rohini West facility has four floors for parking and two for commercial activities. At Janakpuri West, six floors are for parking and three for shops and other establishments.
Non-Metro commuters can use these facilities too, though they eat up a bulk of the space.
“Only about 18 parking lots are fully used by Metro commuters. For example, 80% of the parking facility at Punjabi Bagh was found to be occupied by non-Metro commuters,” another official said.
