Automatic ticket vending machines at railway stations by next week
NEW DELHI: Commuters at railways stations in Delhi will no longer have to wait in long queues to get tickets as the authorities will start Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) facility by next week.

One can now pay for the tickets by inserting coins, paper currency or smart card in the ATVMs. The smart cards are available at the ticket counters for Rs 50 and can be recharged for amounts Rs 100 to Rs 5,000. People can buy platform and unreserved train tickets through the ATVMs as well.
However, railways have done technical changes in the ATVMs now. The upgraded machines can identify fake currencies. Also, if the machines identifies that the money has not been deducted from the smart card then the machine will black list the card and the information would be sent to the railway control room.
“Railways will prepare a list, along with photos and other details, of all those who buy the cards so that if the person misuses it, he can be tracked,” a senior official said.
