U-turns, closure of exits proposed to ease traffic on Hindon elevated road
This will shorten journeys by nearly 3km for people who wish to get on the corridor from GT Road.
To ease the flow of traffic towards the Hindon elevated road, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) will open a newly constructed U-turn within a week near the traffic rotary at the start of the 10.3km raised stretch. As of now, vehicles move around a roundabout following a traffic signal to approach the elevated road from Raj Nagar Extension (RNE).

Besides this, the GDA has proposed the construction of new U-turns, the opening of newly constructed U-turns and the closing of exits at RNE to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
“We will be conducting an inspection of the newly constructed U-turn with authority engineers and the traffic police. It is likely to open for traffic within a week,” Ritu Maheshwari, vice-chairperson of the authority, said.
The new U-turn at the rotary will allow the seamless movement of vehicles. It has been constructed almost 200 metres from the rotary on the main RNE road. Traffic coming from RNE will now skip the signal and move straight ahead. After taking the U-turn, commuters will have a complete access to the elevated road, the Karhera river overbridge and RNE.
The officials said that the traffic signal will be removed once the U-turn is opened.
“Further, to ease the movement of vehicles on GT Road going towards the Hindon elevated road, we have planned a new U-turn. This will ensure that commuters from the city don’t have to travel up to Arthala and then take a U-turn and come back in order to go towards the elevated road,” Maheshwari said.
This will shorten journeys by nearly three kilometres for commuters who wish to take the elevated road from the GT road. Presently, motorists from Ghaziabad city have to travel up to Arthala, from where they turn around and travel back to GT Road to move towards the starting point of the elevated stretch.
“The present U-turn discourages many commuters from using the elevated road as it is too far. The newly proposed U-turn will save a lot of distance. The proposal is being prepared and tendering will be done soon. Further, we have also proposed certain road infrastructure changes at RNE to ensure better movement of vehicles and reduce congestion,” Maheshwari added.
The RNE road caters to major traffic movement from Meerut and leads up to the Hindon elevated road.
The officials said that they have closed down an exit near a VVIP high-rise and have proposed widening of the road at the RNE roundabout and the nearby Morti crossing.
They added that two more cexits on the RNE road will be closed down soon.
