Delhi BJP set for an organisational rejig, new faces may be inducted

The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party may witness organisational rejig as its chief Manoj Tiwari is likely to induct new faces and reallocate responsibilities to some state officer-bearers. The names of inductees may be announced next week.

Speaking of possible changes, Tiwari said that the functioning of incumbent team is being closely watched and appropriate decisions will be taken soon.

“We are determined to strengthen the organisation for 2019 general elections. Our priority is to create departments and cells at district and block levels like we had set up similar units for the state and also to find workers for 80 odd positions lying vacant since municipal elections were held in April. We are assessing the performance of current office bearers. If it requires changes, we will certainly reorganise the team,” Tiwari said.

According to the sources, the state leadership has sought a go-ahead for appointment of two vice-presidents (VPs) — one in-charge for the media department and the other replacement of a general secretary — from the higher authorities.

At present, the Delhi BJP has eight VPs and the media department is headed by a convener.

Going by the single-post norm, councillors who are holding ‘positions’ in corporations will also be replaced, said a senior party functionary.

“Also, the party will have to find a suitable replacement of vice-president Kulwant Singh Bhaat, who has recently resigned. His resignation will be accepted in a day or two,” he said.

Bhaat tendered his resignation after he boycotted the convention organised by the Rashtriya Sikh Sangat —Sikh wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) — held in the national capital last week following the call given by the highest temporal seat of Sikh community Akal Takht.

Taking cognisance of their anti-party activities, around 80 members including a few sitting councillors were suspended ahead of municipal polls this year.

Another BJP leader privy to the development said the state leadership is not pleased with the working of several office bearers and has already apprised the high command about the issue.

“It has been observed that a section of leaders are not working as per the expectation. Their performance has been disappointing. So, it has been decided to reward those who are contributing diligently,” he said.
