The meeting lasted for about 90 minutes. Singh said the “spiritual” meeting with Shankaracharya has nothing to do with the politics.

The Congress general secretary said the ‘Narmada Yatra’ will commence from September 30 and will end early next year.

Political corridors were abuzz with the “unexpected” meeting of Singh with Shankaracharya. The leaders from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its mentor Rastriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) swayamsewaks are regular visitors of Shankaracharya.

According to sources, Singh’s meeting was well planned and it was aimed at striking a right chord with the saint community before the next general elections in 2019.

Singh hoped that Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi would be elected as the party president. “Rahul Gandhi as Congress president will infuse new enthusiasm among the party cadre and the 2019 parliamentary election will witness surprising results under his leadership, that is already being feared by BJP,” he asserted.
