Lok Sabha 2019 constituency: Trinamool Congress will be up against BJP in Uluberia
Uluberia will vote on May 6, the fifth of the seventh phase of Lok Sabha election. The result will be declared on May 23.
Sultan Ahmed had wrested the Uluberia Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal from the CPI(M) for the Trinamool Congress for the first time in 2009.
Sultan Ahmed defeated Hannan Mollah of the Communist Party of India(Marxist), who had won the seat eight times in a row since 1980, in the 2009 Lok Sabha election.
The Trinamool leader died in 2017 and a by-poll was held in 2018. His wife Sajda Ahmed won the Uluberia seat beating her nearest rival the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) Anupam Mallik by a margin of 4.74 lakh votes. The CPI(M), which ruled the state for 33 years before being voted out in 2011, finished third.
Sajda Ahmed has been fielded again by the Trinamool from the Uluberia seat in the Lok Sabha election 2019.
