Two armed robberies reported in north Delhi
The incidents come just three days after an armed robbery took place at the Pragati Maidan tunnel on Saturday
Two armed robberies were reported from different localities of north Delhi within a span of nine hours on Tuesday. The first robbery took place in Kashmere Gate area while the other was reported from Wazirabad, police said.
The incidents come just three days after an armed robbery took place at the Pragati Maidan tunnel on Saturday.
In the first incident, three unidentified robbers on two two-wheelers waylaid a 56-year-old businessman on north Delhi’s Yudhisthir Setu and robbed him of his scooter at gunpoint. He was carrying around ₹4.5 lakh in the storage compartment of his scooter when the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon, police said. The robbery was captured on a CCTV camera. A case of robbery with common intention was registered at the Kashmere Gate police station. No arrests were made till Wednesday.
Sharing details of the case, deputy commissioner of police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi said the police control room received a call at 1.15pm on Tuesday regarding the robbery of a scooter and some cash at Yudhisthir Setu. A police team went to the crime spot and met the victim, Sunil Kumar Jain, a wholesaler of dairy products at Khoya Mandi in Kashmere Gate.
“Jain told the police that he was riding his scooter back home to Shahdara’s Bihari Colony. On the way, he stopped on the bridge over the Yamuna to answer a phone call. As he stopped, two men on a scooter arrived and asked for money while pointing a pistol-like object at him. Soon, another man arrived on a motorcycle and asked Jain to give him the keys of the scooter. Jain gave him the keys after which one of the three men fled with his scooter. Jain told the police that there was around ₹4.5 lakh inside the scooter’s storage,” said DCP Kalsi.
A first information report (FIR) was registered under sections 394 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on Jain’s complaint. Several teams of the police station and the district’s special staff were formed to nab the robbers. The CCTV cameras of the routes that the suspects took before and after the crime were being scanned, the police said.
In the second case, that took place around 9.30pm on Tuesday, a group of at least five suspects, wearing helmets and armed with firearms, knives and other weapons, robbed a businessman and his brother after assaulting them at their godown in Wazirabad’s Jagatpur.
One of the brothers, Abid Khan, had returned to the godown after collecting money from some business partners. Soon, five men armed with weapons forcibly entered the godown, pointed a gun at Khan’s brother Sattar and snatched his phone. Thereafter, they assaulted the two brothers, snatched Abid’s gold chain, took out around ₹3 lakh from an almirah, and fled, the police said.
“We have registered a case and are trying to nab the culprits,” said DCP Kalsi.
