In due course: DU students’ admit card woes
Final-year students of Delhi University, in various colleges, are running from pillar to post to settle dues and seek clearance from the administration to receive their admit cards in time. The final semester exams of the outgoing batch are set to begin soon.
Just before it’s exam time, the final-year students are waiting for long hours in queue for a clearance from the administration staff to acquire admit cards for end-sem exams. A struggle unmatched! Presently undergoing the rigmarole, some students are even taking to social media to document their struggles.

Recalling the chaos at the single window in her college, Labhanshi Mittal, a final-year student of Applied Psychology (Hons) at Shyama Prasad Mukherji College for Women, says, “There were some 1,200 students who rushed to clear their dues and get clearance. There was also an altercation between a teacher and some students. But, to take a stand for my peers, I decided to help out my friends and documented the whole incident on my Insta. For this I was even scorned by my college authorities. But sach toh batana banta tha,” informs Mittal.

Among other final-year students, many like Disha Mukherjee had to muster the courage to stand in seven different lines for clearance and to be eligible to receive their admit cards. “There are separate lines for NSS, NSO, and NCC. Then, there’s a line for the library clearance, to ensure all the library cards are returned and no dues are pending. The fifth line is for the cashier to see that no fee is outstanding. The sixth line is for our department dues to clear, and the seventh one is to get our admit card punched. Is sab ke liye ORS ke packets are a must to carry,” shares Mukherjee, who is a final-year student of Psychology (Hons) at Lady Shri Ram College for Women.
Having carefully screened the scenario, Mukherjee came up with a jugaad: “All these kids needed printouts of their admit card forms and I had to get my lab file printed. I stood in the queue at around 10am, but after the chaos I knew there was no sanity in waiting. So a bunch of my friends stood there and informed me know when the rush subsided. So when it was around 3pm, I went in and came out with the card in almost no time.”

“The line in front of the library became so long that people who didn’t even know each other randomly started playing antakshari,” shares Fraddy Rozario, a final-year student of BA (Prog) at Dyal Singh College. He, too, had his sources in place when it came to being resourceful to get the needful. “When our turn came, we rushed to get the clearance from library but just then the girl before us exclaimed she had lost her library card! She was thus entitled to pay a fine of ₹100, but she didn’t have any cash on her and the librarian accepts only cash. So all of searched our pockets and gave her whatever money we could find from a tenner to a ₹50 currency note. After we gave her the money, sir said she had to deposit cash at another department,” he says, adding, “But then one of my friends went with her and we saved her a spot too, because itna frustrating hota hai sarkaari kaam ke liye dhakke khana ki we wanted to spread kindness.”
