A month after a 16-year-old girl was stabbed to death in outer Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy, the Delhi Police on Tuesday submitted a 640-page charge sheet in the case in a city court.

The police said that the evidence submitted against the arrested suspect Sahil, 20, included CCTV footage, voice samples and biological samples, among others.

“We had sent 14 biological exhibits, four physical exhibits, a chemical exhibit and a cyber exhibit to the forensic science laboratory (FSL) in Rohini. They provided the results to us in time, and we were able to submit them to the court,” said a senior police officer.

In the charge sheet, the police said that the suspect was in a relationship with the minor and they often fought over various issues. “On May 27, the two had an argument in the neighbourhood where the murder took place,” police said in the charge sheet. “This prompted Sahil to seek revenge.”

“Sahil murdered the girl by stabbing her with a knife and hitting her with a stone slab on the evening of May 28,” said a senior police officer speaking about the contents of the charge sheet.

CCTV footage helped identify Sahil as the murderer. A day after the crime, he was tracked down to Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh where he was hiding. He was brought to Delhi the same day.

“The subsequent detailed investigation led to the recovery of the knife which was the weapon of offence,” said the officer.

The police first registered a murder case, and later added sections for sexual harassment, insulting modesty of a woman, and sections of the Arms Act, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Act.

The court will hear the case next on Saturday, said the officer.

Earlier on May 28, the suspect Sahil had murdered the 16-year-old girl by stabbing her at least 16 times, and then bludgeoning her with a stone slab. The entire crime was caught on CCTV camera in the area, wherein locals are seen passing by and not intervening even as the murder takes place.

The suspect then dumped the knife after the murder and boarded a bus to Bulandshahr from Anand Vihar to his aunt’s home. He was arrested a day later after police traced a call Sahil made to his mother.
