The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Friday recovered unaccounted cash of 45.81 lakh from a passenger in a train at Kotkapura railway station in Faridkot district.

The accused has been identified as Ram Kumar of Sirsa. Faridkot GRP station house officer Jeewan Singh said following a ‘rail roko’ call given by US-based radical organisation Sikhs for Justice legal adviser Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on April 29, a special checking was going on at the railway station. “After getting suspicious, a team of the GRP checked a bag and recovered 45.81 lakh from it.

“Kumar claimed that he works for a Sirsa-based oil company and the money recovered from him was a payment sent by his company, which he was going to deliver at Baghapurana in Moga district. As he failed to provide any proof regarding the cash, we informed the income tax department, who are investigating the matter,” he added.

It is suspected that the cash was supposed to be sent to Jalandhar in connection with upcoming Lok Sabha bypoll.
