Making their debut in the HT-- C-fore survey , government schools have performed brilliantly on an essential feature that parents consider while choosing a school for their children — value for money.

With low fee but high reputation, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, and the one in Sector 35 have grabbed the first and third position, respectively, on this count. "

St John’s High School has retained its second spot, but Carmel Convent School, which was at the first spot last time, is sixth this time.

“We are not inferior to any private school in the city. We are able to produce a large number of meritorious students, yet they do not have to pay heavy fees. We also have more qualified teachers than those in private schools,” says Mini Gupta, vice-principal of GMSSS-16.

In terms of basic infrastructure, St John’s has topped the charts with 82 points out of 100, followed by Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School and Carmel Convent School which have got 80 and 78 points, respectively.

“We have all the facilities for physically challenged students too; there are ramps and we take special care of the kids,” says Mercia Sharma, coordinator of the junior wing at St John’s High School.

In terms of safety and hygiene, Strawberry Fields High School, Carmel Convent School and Vivek High School have retained their top three positions this year.

Strawberry Fields has scored 43 points out of 50, and the other two have scored 40 each. Carmel has been ranked higher as its overall survey position is higher than that of Carmel.

“Our students are our family. We have a medical room and give them a healthy environment. There are dustbins at numerous spots and students are taught to dump the garbage there. Our canteens too are regularly checked,” says Maria Swati, principal of Carmel Convent.
