Why Kalki Koechlin was dressed in a bandage in Ublushed video

We should keep evolving, rather than regressing,” vouches actor Kalki Koechlin who recently came out with her UnBlushed Video that went viral. In the video, Kalki is seen reciting her self-written poem — The Printing Machine focussing on women issues.

The five-minute fast-paced video shows how quickly we go about our daily lives, scrolling from one news to another. It shows Kalki dressed in a bandage. “We were wondering about what to wear while shooting the video, had we lived in Europe, we could have done it nude. The idea is seeing the person as naked as possible in the sense of just who they are, without glamour. For the make up we added extra freckles to make it look like someone raw. But obviously we can’t go nude here, that is why we decided to wrap me in a skin-coloured cloth,” she says.

Having written the poem in January 2015, Kalki says she has lots of them and she jots them down whenever she gets a thought. “These were some of the shocking headlines which stayed in my head. When I read the headline that women in Kerala were strip searched for menstruating, I remember asking, ‘Kya! Why, for what purpose?”

The 32-year-old believes feminism is equality between men and women and is trying to raise awareness on rising crimes against women and the artificial idea of beauty.

“My video is an awareness and observation of the society we live in. We live so much, from moment to moment, that we don’t realise that this will affect the future generation. At least if we are aware of this, we can do something about it,” she says.
