He makes it sound like I’m dead: Kalki Koechlin to Anurag Kashyap

Backstage at an empty auditorium,sits quietly, all by herself. No fidgeting with the phone, no fanfare, no airs. The actor has nothing to tweet about the Salman verdict because her opinion "is not going to affect the verdict", and only lets out a big, good-humoured laugh when we tell her that her former husband, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, has said that losing her has been his "biggest loss".

"Ha ha ... he makes it sound like I’m dead! I’m still alive and I’m very much there for him so I don’t think he has lost me at all. I’m sure, that (Anurag’s remark) was a headline that was taken out of context ... I’m sure there was a lot more to that line," says the 31-year-old. Could he have said it because he’s been missing her? Not a chance, she says, for they talk often.

"We both very much value what we had, and yes, it does take time to get over the rawness and the hurt, but eventually you realise the value of things you had. We are not going to give in to the public pressure of this or that — we still have a very good personal relation. I still call him when I’ve had a rough day, he still calls me when he wants an opinion on something. We haven’t really lost each other. Yes, we’re not getting back together, we’re getting divorced, but you have to refrain from that tamasha that’s created around it," she says.

Meanwhile, as she rides high on the success of Margarita, with a Straw, which is part of the Habitat Film Festival, she shares an interesting anecdote. "The Censor Board wanted 10 cuts in Margarita, but after their screening I met these five aunties in the bathroom who said it’s so brilliant we must take it to the revision committee. So it went there, and got only one cut!"
