Singer Jubin Nautiyal accused of assaulting man, molesting partner at birthday party

A man and his partner have accused Bollywood playback singer Jubin Nautiyal of molestation and physical assault at a hotel in Dehradun on Friday.

Soon after the couple lodged a police complaint in this regard the same night, the singer filed a counter-complaint alleging that the two had gatecrashed his birthday party and later attacked him. Dehradun police are investigating both the complaints.

Police said the incident occurred at a hotel on GMS Road around midnight, when Nautiyal organised a party for his family members and friends on the occasion of his birthday. The first complaint held that Shashank Malik, a resident of Shubhash Nagar, and his female companion were among the invitees.

“Malik alleged in his complaint that Nautiyal molested his friend and, upon being confronted, attacked him,” said Vasant Vihar station house officer Hemant Khanduri. “He said the singer tried to take advantage of his partner when he stepped out for some work.”

However, Nautiyal also dropped by the police station after some time and filed a complaint accusing the couple of attacking him. “The singer alleged in his complaint that the two had come uninvited to his party, which was meant for family members and close friends only. He claimed that they attacked him when he confronted them in this regard, then left the hotel,” said Khanduri.

However, Nautiyal’s version of the events did not end there. The singer said he was driving to the local bus terminal for some work halfway through the party when the couple allegedly overtook him in their car and forced him to stop. “According to his complaint, the two assaulted him again and broke a windowpane of his car being fleeing. It was then that he came to the police station and lodged a complaint against them,” Khanduri said. “We are checking CCTV footage from the hotel and questioning its staffers. No case has been registered until now.”

Nautiyal told HT that the couple were targeting him for media attention. “They want to ruin me and my career,” he said.
