First ‘climate change’ school network comes up in Kashi

Ganga’s width shrinking, oxygen level falling: Study

The level of dissolved oxygen in the River Ganga in Varanasi has dipped in the last two years and the river’s width has also shrunk considerably in 25 years, a study by the Indian Institute of Technology-Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) has said.

Pandas (priests) here will soon speak French, Spanish, Japanese, German and English, besides other Indian languages, in order to inform tourists, Indian and foreign, about the different pujas and rituals performed at the ghats as part of sodash sanskars (16 birth to death rituals).
