Congress general secretary Mohan Prakash said PM Narendra Modi, Smriti Irani and BJP president Amit Shah didn’t have an idea about the culture of universities because they had never been to universities.

Congress general secretary Mohan Prakash on Monday alleged that the NDA government was trying to impose shackles on intellectuals and students. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union HRD minister Smriti Irani and BJP president Amit Shah didn’t have an idea about the culture of universities because they had never been to universities.

“If the students and intellectuals are fettered, how will society run?” Prakash asked in an interaction with HT. Unfortunately, the centre was making attempts to stop students from participating in discussions which were required for the generation of great ideas to foster development.

Accusing the Modi government of sullying the image of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, he said: “What the centre is doing to universities is not good for the future. They want to impose a special ideology on the JNU, Allahabad University, BHU and other universities.”

Prakash criticised the expulsion of six Banaras Hindu University students recently and said that before ensuring action against the students, the university administration should have carried out a probe in the matter. He blamed the centre for harassing youths, intellectuals, famers and filmmakers.

He also called the Union Budget presented by finance minister Arun Jaitley visionless.
