When basic education requires legal battles

As a nation, we continue to fail vast numbers of our youth by not providing the bare minimum they need to move forward — affordable, accessible education.

AI may replace search engines. Is that good?

The internet’s great promise was democratisation through decentralisation. If AI chatbots replace traditional search, it may hasten the end of this promise

Unlike human intelligence, which is built on understanding and creativity, GPT is based on probability, large language models (LLMs), which train on massive amounts of data to learn patterns and predict the most probable sequence of words. (REUTERS)

Social media firms have a ‘duty of care’

It is clear that social media platforms play an active political role in our public discourse, instead of merely providing dumb and passive technological infrastructure for user interactions

Free speech and social media: Reset the debate

It is clear that even if “free speech” was an article of faith for social media platforms, it has now evolved into a justification for a lucrative business model that privileges user engagement over information quality

The anti-CAA protests have hit a wall. Here is why

Indian liberals are adrift today. Here is a way out

To safeguard democracy, Congress must remain true to its ideals

There is a need to rethink the party’s political platform, find new articulations, and a constructive programmatic agenda that connects us with the public

The truth is that the Congress has become over-dependent on institutional intermediaries such as the media to communicate with the public, instead of shaping public opinion through dialogue and discussion. Combined with some loss of credibility, counter-majoritarian positions by the Congress could be twisted, instead of making people pause to rethink the party’s stand.(ARABINDA MAHAPATRA)
