For them one daily meal is a luxury

Revelries of Republic Day have no meaning for the destitute sons of freedom fighters who have been shunned away by the State and Central governments. Restructuring of Duncan subsidy issue resolved

THE LONG overdue restructuring of the subsidy of Duncan Fertilizer Industry has now been resolved with the Fertilizer Industry Coordination Committee (FICC) announcing new fixed price for Chand Chap Urea. Much to the relief of Duncan Fertilizer, the FICC has fixed Rs 16,328 plus the sales tax as per ton cost of production of the urea produced at the Panki plant. The revised subsidy to the fertilizer plant will now be calculated on the basis of the new price fixed by the FICC. This was the issue which resulted in re-closure of plant on October 18, 2005.

KESCo claims prove to be pack of lies

TALL CLAIMS made by KESCo for improving power supply in the city for its 4.25 lakh consumers proved a pack of lies. For the entire 2005, the city reeled under acute power crisis and even violent demonstrations by enraged masses could not improve the dismal power scenario in the city. Be it the festival of lights Diwali, Eid or Christmas, Kanpurites could get no respite from the power crisis. The pathetic scenario could be gauged by the fact that even the court order to regularise rostering in the city proved futile. The prestigious Rs 93 crore APDRP project undertaken to improve power distribution system in the city failed to take off.
