Illegal access points to e-way a cause of snarls

Unauthorised access points dotting the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway from Mahipalpur to Kherki Daula toll plaza are a cause of frequent snarls and accidents on the expressway. Vehicles moving on the busy service roads are often abruptly confronted by a slow moving truck or a car coming at high-speed from a roadside hotel or mall.

No establishment or institution is allowed direct access to the expressway without the permission of the National Highways Authority of India.(Abhinav Saha/HT Photo)

Highway to development is now bane of Manesar

Manesar, an industrial township, which boasts of industries, commercial spaces and many new residential societies, was supposed to benefit from Gurgaon’s growth. Also, the presence of National Highway-8 near it had raised hopes of industrialists when the township was planned by the Haryana government.

Apart from the chaos at the toll plaza, high transport cost and lack of good infrastructure are also reasons for the companies to shun Manesar.(Abhinav Saha/ HT Photo)

Faulty design makes plaza ‘danger zone’

Kherki Daula resident Dilip Yadav still regrets the decision to bring his mother from neighbouring Mahendragarh district to a private hospital in Gurgaon. Yadav’s mother Shrishti Devi, who was very ill, had a close brush with death as they were caught in a long jam at the Kherki Daula toll plaza on their way to the Gurgaon hospital.

One of the trouble spots at the Kherki Daula plaza is the U-turn for Gurgaon-bound traffic, as it is the only point for crossing the highway till Rajiv Chowk.(Abhinav Saha/ HT Photo)
