Union minister of state for defence and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh on Friday said he will continue to push for the removal of Kherki Daula toll plaza from the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway as it has become a bottleneck for commuters and a major drag on the industries in Manesar and Bawal.

Nitin Gadkari, Union minister for road transport, highways and shipping inspected the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and visited the Kherki Daula toll plaza on July 25, 2014.

Singh said he will take up the matter with Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari in the upcoming Parliament session from April 25.

Gadkari had promised to remove the Kherki Daula toll plaza during his inspection of National Highway-8 in July, 2014, claimed Singh.

Rao Inderjit Singh has repeatedly raised the issue of snarls on the expressway and the lack of road infrastructure in his constituency. During the erstwhile Congress government in the state, he had a feud with chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda about the same.

After switching to the BJP and becoming a minister in the Modi government, Rao Inderjit has been somewhat successful in bringing infrastructure projects to Gurgaon. “I am committed to the removal of this toll plaza and will remind Gadkari about the promise made to me and the people of Gurgaon. The parliament session is starting on April 25 and I will take up the matter with him,” said Singh. The minister said that either the toll plaza should be shifted at the earliest or it should be ensured that no amount is charged from private vehicles.

Corroborating HT’s ‘Taking a Toll’ campaign for the removal or to shift Kherki Daula toll plaza, Rao Inderjit says there is a strong need to build public opinion in this regard as the daily jams are hitting the industries and economy of Gurgaon-Manesar-Bawal belt.

“It was in 2014 that I had invited the union transport minister to inspect this road, after which he had assured me that Kherki Daula toll will be removed. The time has come to remind him of this promise,” Snigh said, while addressing a public meeting in Shikohpur village.
