The car-lover, identified by his surname Qi, was granted his final wish by his family on Tuesday, Beijing’s South China Morning Post reported.
The man died in his village in Hebei province on Monday and according to villagers he wrote in his will asking to be buried in his own car, which he owned for more than a decade, as opposed to a traditional coffin.
In a video, that has garnered over 1.6 million views, shows a Hyundai Sonata car bearing his body hanging by ropes from an excavator as it is slowly lowered into a grave. The pit was later sealed with concrete with cement slabs on either side.
The bizarre ceremony has left netizens amused on Chinese social media platform Weibo. One user commented that the grave will perplex future archaeologists when they dig out to find the body inside.
