British man’s PowerPoint presentation to impress date backfires, but earns praise on internet

A man from London did something unusual to impress his date on their first meeting. He put his computer skills to use to propose ideas on the places they could meet but it was not received well by the other party.

Ben Velzian met a man named Tom on Tinder, a mobile-based dating platform, according to the Daily Mail. After getting matched, Tom asked for his suggestions on places where they could meet.

Velzian, a self-confessed “weirdo”, sent him an elaborate PowerPoint presentation listing down such places. From Sir John Soane’s Museum to “arty maze” by Millennium Dome, and Junkyard Golf, Velzian put it all with their pros and cons.

But his effort to amaze his date backfired when he found out that Tom instead blocked him on WhatsApp. “I am not selling myself very well,” Velzian said on his Twitter thread he started.

While Velzian got rejected by his date for using humorous way of planning a first date, he was wholeheartedly praised on the internet.

“This is incredible. I hope he proposed immediately,” one of the users commented on Twitter. “Quite frankly, I refuse to consider dates without a PowerPoint now. DM me for my email guys xox,” another comment read.

Velzian, however, thought it was “a waste of my MS Office skills” until Microsoft commented on his Twitter thread, saying, “We know your heart will go on” - a line from the hit song sung by Velzian’s favourite singer Celine Dion.

“I think the greatest achievement of my life is Microsoft Office posting about me with a @celinedion quote. Can I put this on my CV?” a clearly excited Velzian tweeted.

Velzian finally realised he can’t date someone “who has 0 humour” and that he has “dodged a bullet”.
