‘Prove Prayagraj demolition was as per law’: SC seeks UP govt’s reply in 3 days

- The Supreme Court has issued a notice to Uttar Pradesh government over recent demolitions in Prayagraj and Kanpur. The Supreme Court while hearing a petition filed by Jamiat-Ulema-E-Hind, asked the Yogi Adityanath government to follow procedures and carry out demolition only as per law. The court noted that no demolition will take place without serving a notice. The petitioners alleged that the state government was targeting minorities with their bulldozer action. The allegation was refuted by the state government claiming that the demolitions took place after due procedure. The Supreme Court will hear the case next on June 21 when it will receive a reply from the U.P. government explaining how the Prayagraj demolition was done as per law. On Sunday, the Prayagraj Development Authority had demolished the house of Javed Mohammed, who cops claim is the mastermind behind June 10 violence following protests amid the Prophet row.
