Amid ongoing India-Maldives row, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made a special mention of Lakshadweep in her Budget 2024 speech. She said that to address the emerging fervour for domestic tourism, projects for port connectivity, tourism infrastructure, and amenities will be taken up on Indian islands, including Lakshadweep.
