She is better known as comedian Kapil Sharma's Pinky bua on his show, and while actor Upasna Singh has no complaints about that, she admits that she had to fight a lot of negative thoughts before accepting this role.
"I had no idea that this character will get so famous. When the role was narrated to me, people told me that this character has a lot of insecurities and as a lady, I will be insulted on stage. So, I had my apprehensions about taking up this role at first," says Upasna. However, it was her will to do justice to the character, and Sharma's talent that made Upasna say yes to the role, and now she is more than happy about her decision. "I feared that my character would get associated with me personally, but it turned out to be completely different and people loved me. I always liked Kapil's work and I knew he was talented," she says.
Besides television, Upasna has done roles in movies such as Ishq Vishk (2003) and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), but she rues that the big screen doesn't have space for female comedians. "There are very few female comedians. There used to be many of them earlier," says the 39-year-old who will star in an upcoming movie, in which she plays a teacher.
