A massive drop in player count for Overwatch 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2 within their first year of release is a cause for concern for Activision Blizzard.

Activision Blizzard's most recent financial report reveals that both Overwatch 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2 have experienced significant drops in player count within their first year of release. These two iconic FPS franchises were highly anticipated by gamers, but new data reveal has added bit of a drama for Activision Blizzard.

Overwatch 2 was released in October last year and has seen an overall player count drop of 18 million. Despite releasing a new stream of content, such as the new Support hero Lifeweaver and the new Telantis map, the game has encountered various problems including bugs, glitches, stuttering, and matchmaking issues. It is currently in Season 4, and while the addition of new content is intended to keep players engaged, the significant drop in player count is troubling news for the game.

Similarly, Call of Duty: Warzone 2 welcomed Season 3 this week, adding new game modes and features to the battle royale, such as a new Gulag map, an arsenal of weapon attachments, and tempered plates that allow players to equip more armor. However, the report indicates that the hype for the game appears to be cooling off, with Warzone 2 losing 13 million players after an initial increase of 14 million monthly players, reaching an average of 111 million.

A drop in player count is always a concern for online games, and the situation for Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is more complicated, as it has been losing players for some time. For Overwatch 2 and Warzone 2 players, they can only wait and hope that these drops do not significantly impact the games in the long term.

These drops in player count come at a time when Microsoft is pursuing an acquisition of Activision Blizzard. However, the acquisition was recently blocked, which adds a new twist to the company's plans.

While the addition of new content is meant to keep players engaged, the bugs, glitches, and matchmaking issues have impacted the overall player experience. For now, players of these two games can only hope that the drop in player count does not affect the longevity and success of the franchises.
