Pokemon fan's futuristic Mecha version of Koraidon leaves fans awestruck

May 11, 2023 07:25 AM IST

Despite leaving some fans confused, the impressive Koraidon artwork has sparked a conversation among Pokemon enthusiasts on Reddit.

A talented digital artist in the Pokemon community has created a futuristic mecha version of Koraidon, one of the two box art Legendaries for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The artwork has garnered a strong response from other Pokemon fans on Reddit, although it appears to be leaving many of them confused.

Koraidon and its counterpart, Miraidon, are the box art Legendaries of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Both are considered as Paradox Pokemon, which are a group of exotic creature that are a version of an already existing Pokemon from either the ancient past or distant future.

The Koraidon in Pokemon Scarlet is an ancient version of Cyclizar, while Miraidon represents a future version. However, this Pokemon artist decided to flip that on its head and create a futuristic version of Koraidon.

The artist, Xezeno, posted the drawing onto the popular Pokemon subreddit r/pokemon, showcasing their awe-inspiring futuristic design for the ancient Pokemon Scarlet mascot.

The impressive artwork retains many of the basic elements that distinguish Koraidon's unique look, including its various plumes and antennae, albeit with a more mechanical, inorganic style. The new design features a far darker color pallet, mostly black and gray with some scarlet and gold accents, instead of its traditional scarlet, white, and blue-purple color profile. The Koraidon artwork also sports some clever details, including a drop-down visor and plumage converting to a windshield in drive mode.

The Reddit post has been quite popular among other Pokemon fans on the platform, garnering over 6,000 upvotes at the time of writing this article. However, the overall concept of the artwork has left the post filled with confused comments. As Miraidon is a futuristic, mechanized version of the same root Pokemon that Koraidon is, many have commented that the drawing is essentially Miraidon, but with "extra steps."

Some fans thought the design was reminiscent of Zoids, while others compared it to Raiden from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

This isn't the first impressive artwork that the Redditor has made for Koraidon. Last month, the artist showcased their incredible Monster Hunter-style makeover of Koraidon. This version of Koraidon appears to take some design cues from the franchise-favorite flying monster Rathalos, bearing thick red scales and a massive tail.

Koraidon and Miraidon are Paradox Pokemon, making them unique and interesting choices for box art Legendaries. The artwork created by Xezeno showcases their incredible artistic talent and ability to create imaginative designs. Although some fans were left confused by the futuristic mecha version of Koraidon, it is still an impressive piece of artwork that has sparked conversation among the Pokemon community.
