Is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom living up to the hype?
As the release date approaches, many fans were hoping for a more stable performance from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Gamers around the globe are eagerly anticipating the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the latest installment in the beloved franchise. While Nintendo’s gameplay previews have been dropping left and right, a lucky few have already had the chance to try out the game and assess its visual performance.

After six years of development, including a one-year delay and sparse advertising, the ambitious Tears of the Kingdom is finally within reach. Early testers from the video game journalism community have had the chance to experiment with its new mechanics, such as crafting vehicles, fusing weapons, forging armor, and even manipulating the laws of physics. The game also includes several familiar features from its predecessor, such as cooking, weapon durability, and the Korok Seed quest.
Despite the hype, some critics are reporting a slightly dodgy performance during the hectic moments of the extended demo. Nevertheless, others have praised its overall stability, even noting improvements over the previous game, Breath of the Wild. According to Nintendo World Report and Nintendo Life, a popular Nintendo-based YouTuber, the game runs at 1600 x 900 resolution and 30fps, identical to the last game, even when docked. The specs remain the same on the newer Switch OLED model, which can be bundled with Tears of the Kingdom. Although the game's performance on the handheld and tabletop modes is still unknown, it is speculated that it will be similar to that of its predecessor.
One of the major complaints about Breath of the Wild was its resolution, particularly in more populated areas of the game. Frame drops were frequent in towns and even inside the Korok Forest, making it difficult for some players to enjoy the game. While Tears of the Kingdom seems to have improved in some areas, it is still uncertain whether the resolution will be a significant issue for players.
As the release date approaches, many fans were hoping for a more stable performance from Tears of the Kingdom. There has been speculation that this may indicate a need for a rumored upgrade to the Switch console, but Nintendo has denied such rumors in the past. While the base console is still selling remarkably well, it is unknown when or if such an upgrade will be released.
