‘Bug’ prevented display of images, including Ellen's Oscars 2014 selfie: X (formerly Twitter)
Though the bug has been fixed, the issue will be fully resolved over the coming days, the social network said on its support page.
Days after photos and other media links from and before 2014 – including the iconic Oscars selfie – disappeared from X (formerly Twitter), the Elon Musk-owned social network said on Tuesday that a ‘bug’ prevented it from displaying such photos, adding that though the bug has been fixed, the issue shall be fully resolved over the coming days.
X also clarified that no data and images were ‘lost.’
“Over the weekend we had a bug that prevented us from displaying images from before 2014. No images or data were lost. We fixed the bug, and the issue will be fully resolved in the coming days,” the tech giant noted on its support page.
What was the issue?
Earlier, there were reports that the issue affected only those posts that were made after December 2014; it was, therefore, assumed that the glitch could be due to the changes made by the then Twitter in 2016, when it added ‘enhanced URL enrichment’ in order to show previews for linked websites and native attachments that were beyond the prescribed 140-character limit.
According to HT's sister website Mint, which cited The Verge, the ‘bug’ is possibly a result of of the switch of domains from Twitter.com to X.com.
The Oscars selfie
It was taken by Bradley Cooper from Ellen DeGeneres's phone at the 86th Academy Awards, on March 2, 2014. The selfie featured Cooper, DeGeneres, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Jared Leto, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, and Lupita Nyong'o and her non-actor brother Peter, who photobombed the shot, blocking Jolie's view.
