Researchers found new frog species in Meghalaya's Siju cave

A new species of frog has been discovered deep inside a cave in the South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, India. The frog, called Amolops siju, was discovered by researchers from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) in January 2020, and was named after the cave in which it was found. The frog is the second of its kind to be discovered inside a cave in India. The discovery was part of a research project on the faunal documentation of the Siju cave system.
