October's 'ring of fire' solar eclipse will dazzle parts of South America and the Pacific

A "ring of fire" annular solar eclipse will occur Wednesday, visible mainly over Easter Island and parts of Argentina and Chile. This unique phenomenon happens when the moon partially blocks the sun, creating a ring-like appearance. Safe viewing requires specialized eclipse glasses. Partial views can also be seen from Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Hawaii.
