New research reveals crucial insights on Antarctic ozone hole

Despite a global ban on chemicals that deplete the ozone layer, the hole in the Antarctic ozone layer has been deepening in mid-spring over the last two decades, according to new research. The study suggests that something else is going on in the atmosphere, possibly due to climate change, that is masking the recovery of the ozone layer. The researchers found that there has not yet been a significant reduction in the area covered by the ozone hole over Antarctica and there has been less ozone at the centre of the hole over time.
