New AI model diagnoses diseases by drawing visual maps
Researchers have developed a new AI model for medical imaging that explains its decisions, aiding doctors in catching diseases early. The model, described in IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, was trained on over 20,000 images for diagnosing tumours, macular degeneration, and heart conditions. It performed comparably to other AI systems, with accuracy rates of 77.8-99.1%. The model's transparency aims to assist doctors and patients worldwide, especially in regions with limited medical resources.
