AI-supported mammography found to be safe during trials: Study

Artificial intelligence (AI) supported mammography screening is safe, more accurate, and efficient, according to an interim safety analysis of the first randomized trial. The study found that AI-supported screening detected 20% more cancers compared to routine double reading by two breast radiologists. The use of AI in mammography screening could potentially reduce the workload of radiologists and help address the shortage of breast radiologists in many countries. Further trials are needed to confirm the implications on patient outcomes and the cost-effectiveness of the technology.
