Global warming rate speeds up at 0.2 degrees celsius per decade, scientists warn

A peer-reviewed study by 50 top scientists has warned of an unparalleled acceleration in global warming caused by record-high greenhouse gas emissions and diminishing air pollution. Human-induced warming has accelerated at an unprecedented rate of over 0.2 degrees Celsius per decade from 2013 to 2022, and average annual emissions hit an all-time high of 54 billion tonnes of CO2 or its equivalent over the same period. The findings would appear to close the door on capping global warming under the Paris Agreement's more ambitious 1.5C target.
