DNA traces found in fossil of six million-year-old sea turtle
Researchers have discovered remnants of DNA in a fossilised sea turtle dating back six million years. The fossil was discovered in 2015 on Panama's Caribbean coast and contains preserved bone cells which reacted to a chemical solution that allowed the researchers to recognise remnants of DNA. The fossil is from the same genus as the Kemp's ridley and olive ridley turtles.
